Installing and Starting the Program

Realsoft 3D ships with Debian and RPM packages. Just download the appropriate setup package and follow the standard installation procedure to install them.

[Note] Note
Realsoft 3D requires Motif package.

If your Linux distro is not either Debian or RPM based, then you can use the generic package, which can be run on any system with typical *nix* programs, such as tar, gzip and bash, installed.

To install the program using the generic .sh setup, enter the following commands in a terminal window:

    su
    sh ./realsoft3d-8.2.*-linux-i386.sh
    exit

or

    sudo sh realsoft3d-8.2.*-linux-i386.sh

If you have TCL installed a graphical installer is invoked. If you don't have TCL package installed then the setup runs in text mode. You may also force the install to run in text mode, by passing -t parameter to the setup:

    sh ./realsoft3d-8.2.*-linux-i386.sh -t

If you have TCL installed a graphical installer is invoked. If you don't have TCL package installed then the setup runs in text mode. You may also force the install to run in text mode, by passing -t parameter to the setup:

    sh ./realsoft3d-8.2.*-linux-i386.sh -t

Realsoft 3D can be started from Applications/Realsoft Graphics Oy/Realsoft 3D menu entry, or by clicking the Realsoft 3D desktop icon. You can also start it the same way as any standard Linux appication, by typing its name 'realsoft3d' in a terminal window.

If the program refuses to start, you most likely don't have the Motif libraries installed (libXm.so), or your need newer versions of them installed. Try starting the program in a terminal window to see the exact name of the missing library, and then install the package containing the library version in question.

After installation, you need to set the install key. Start the program and select the pull down menu Help/About. The opened About window includes an Install Key field. Type your install key into it exactly as written in the sticker of the install CD or in the license registration message, and then click the Set Key button. Note that characters are case sensitive. You can also find the install key after the download link in the Software Updates area of realsoft.com.

[Note] Note
The install key consists of your personal license key, and a platform specific extension. It should look as follows:
    annnnnnnnnnnn.nnnnnnn

If you do not set the install key, the program will expire after 2 months. It will then run in demo mode, save functionality disabled.
